Chris Burt
Chris BurtOwner / Sound Designer
Chris Burt has been involved in sound post production since 1984. After studying English Literature at Victoria University in Wellington NZ and pursuing a 7 year career as a touring and recording musician, he commenced his film industry career as assistant sound editor on the feature film “Trial Run”, directed by Melanie Read. Following this, after a stint running a rushes screening and transfer facility for local producer Don Reynolds, Chris became a freelance sound editor, working on some of the numerous feature films produced in New Zealand prior to 1987. Highlights include Quiet Earth by Geoff Murphy, Footrot Flats by Murray Ball, and The End of the Golden Weather by Ian Mune. Subsequently Chris continued as sound designer for many projects including Kiwi Experience, a showscan production featuring Billy T James and Ned Beatty and boasting the first 6 track sound replay supporting 70mm pictures running at 60 frames per second, and “Kitchen Sink” the critically acclaimed short film directed by Alison MacLean. During this time Chris gained experience in all aspects of sound post production, working variously as dialogue editor foley artist, adr recording engineer, sound designer and re-recording mixer, and gaining intimate knowledge of both the technical and aesthetic requirements of feature film and television soundtracks.
